Toronto, ON-Sterling State Park, MI (Day 1)

August 17th Miles 0 to 271 I decided a few months ago that when I was done with summer classes that I was going to take my sportster for a ride across the country to see some friends in San Diego. I’m going to be keeping a daily journal, trying to keep the blog as up to date as possible. Pictures and maps will be posted hopefully in the middle and end of the trip. Well of course my adventure had to start out with a little excitement I was maybe a couple hours outside of Toronto on the 403, nothing of significance happening other then some traffic, when I saw far down the road a very dark rain cloud. Toronto-Lake Placid (1)

So after about three months of having the bike out of winger storage and only two “long distance” trips (one being 100 miles round trip and another was to Wasaga Beach for a long weekend, but more about those later) I’m finally out on a real touring trip, and one that I haven’t done before. Right now I’m sitting in the wolf-island ferry terminal waiting for the three o’clock ferry to New York. It took me about four hours to go the roughly 200 km from Toronto to Kingston. My originally planned route was to take route 2/Kingston road all the way to Kingston. I had looked up this route in my H.O.G. touring guide which marked pretty much all of rt. 2 as a scenic route.
