Day 48 (motorcycle): Rubber Back on the Road

(sorry if the day numbers seem weird. I started the numbering over for the hiking, but it seemed better now to just keep it all together. So 48 is the total number of days out) October 14 Miles 4993-5170.3 So after exactly one month and over 550 miles of hiking, it was finally time to get the rubber on the road again! After spending a great afternoon in Seattle where I got my sleeping pad fixed at the MSR factory, eating fish sandwiches and raw oysters at the market, and getting a coffee at the very first Starbucks, we were on our way south to Portland. There, 8 of us (we lost Swiss Miss this morning on a plane back to Georgia), were invited to stay at the home of the Splarmboys (Splints and Farmboy), whose parents were so fantastic to not only do so much for me but then

Day 22: The Dinsmore’s

October 2nd; Zero Miles Sometimes there are trail angels that really go above and beyond, people who have essentially devoted their lives to thru-hikers. The Dinsmores in Baring, WA are perfect examples, and there license plates say it all: ” PCT Dad” and “PCT Mom.” In the front law of their house they have a huge sign carved in wood that reads “The Dinsmores Hiker Haven,” behind their home they’ve got a big building used mainly for storage, garbage, and workshop space. They took us in to one of the sections towards the left where there was a huge shelf against the wall amongst all the clutter filled willed with packages they were holding for hikers. They let us pick up our stuff akdthen showed us to the hiker hostel area which was the farthest left compartment of this garage building. The space foe hikers was perfect and with tons

Day 15: Great trail angel, nice weather, and great views

After our amazing breakfast and packing up, we all got back in the car. We had some last minute stuff to pick up as some people went to a Fred Meyers and Big foot and I went to a running store ( I needed some superfeet because I’d been having some foot problems and wanted to change things a little to see if it would help, superfeet providing some stronger support). Afterwards, Jon took us all to an amazing burger place for burgers and shakes. On the drive back up to the pass, there was a bit of a scary moment when traffic got stopped suddenly. When we finally drove by and got to see what happened, we could see what happened, we could see what looked like an H-D Ultra Classic, surrounded by emergency vehicles, including an ambulance. Then we noticed a guy in a stretcher, with a neck
